Prof. Schoppa was my only non-nursing professor at Valparaiso. His knowledge of Asian history and the Vietnam War was fascinating and opened my eyes. And he helped my relearn how to write in prose, rather than nurse-ese. Thank you for sharing him with his students.

Keith was instrumental in helping to begin a Chinese Language Program in the Modern Language and Literature Department at Loyola University Maryland when I was the department chair. He was supportive of my efforts to expand the program to include literature and culture courses and to have it included in the Asian Studies Minor. Keith was always generous and kind in sharing his time and expertise to help with the program. Diane Sorace

Keith was an absolutely superb scholar of modern China, a man whose innate modesty belied a wealth of knowledge that he shared through his many monographs and then his widely used and much admired textbook on modern China. I am now inured to the passing of my seniors, but Keith was a few years younger than I and I will treasure the times we had together and the quiet manner in which in shared his enormous insights. His passing is a reminder of our own mortality and I offer all of my condolences to his family. Joe Esherick Berkeley, California

Keith was a brilliant scholar in the field of Chinese studies and Asian Studies. I met him only briefly during my first year at Loyola. Yet every time we talked, I was always inspired by his passion for research and learning. Keith also brought many positive changes to the university. He will be surely missed.
