Obituary

MADISON - Richard J. “Dick” Buskov, age 72, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2022. He was born on Aug. 2, 1949, to Richard Buskov Sr. and Orlean (Lee) Buskov in Denver, Colo.

After graduating from Sun Prairie High School in 1968, Dick entered the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. Upon his discharge from the Army, Dick married Darlene Zins in 1970. He went on to attend Madison Area Technical College, where he received his Restaurant and Hotel Management degree and worked as a chef for a number of years. Dick eventually went on to work for Forest Products Laboratory in Madison and retired from there after 30+ years of employment. Dick loved all sports and spent his free time working as a softball umpire for many years, later working as a softball trainer and as an onsite game supervisor. In 2013, Dick had the honor of being inducted into the softball of Wisconsin Hall of Fame. Dick also worked on a football crew assisting with some high school football games and spent a number of years assisting with the Saturday morning youth football league games. He spent a few years as a Men’s Madison recreation basketball scorekeeper and timekeeper. He loved every second of the time he spent being involved with these activities. Dick’s other interests included cooking, traveling, and classical and Indian flute music. In his early years, he played guitar.

Dick is survived by his wife, Darlene; daughter, Laura Tapia-Rojas; sisters, Mary (Jim) Landau, Betty Georgeson and Debra (Greg) Ott; brothers, Mike and Jim Buskov; brothers-in-law, Orlo (Claudia) Zins and Alan (Karin) Zins; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to Dick’s family and friends, he will be dearly missed by his three loving cats, Buddy, Gabby and his special little girl, Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Buskov Sr. in 2014 and Orlean Buskov in 1997; and a nephew, Alex J. Buskov in 2018.

Per Dick’s wishes, a private burial for immediate family members will be held.

The family would like to thank Dr. Amy Manderville and her staff at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, Wis., for the loving care they showed Dick and our whole family during this difficult time. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

I am most proud of my brothers military sacrifice and his querky sence of humor right to the end. He was MIA for 2wks wounded in VietNam. When he was found and brought home, he brought many wounds, and still his humor prevailed. In an interview with a niece, he shared his story. I share a profound love and respect for this man. On this day, Dicks birthday, I vow to never to forget his courage and laughter he's always shown. I love you my brother ❤️😂

One more thing I wanted to share with everyone. I was fortunate to be with Dick as he began his new journey from earth. I witnessed twice he waved at an invisible presence in the room. Not a wave of hand, more like a cute hand up and fingers up and down, kind of wave. I knew he was in loving company! This brought me great peace. We have all been blessed to have had him in our lives. A soldier and gentleman...with a querky sence of humor, Lol. ❤️

I was sorry to hear of the passing of Dick. My fondest memories of Dick when he was working at the Forest Products Laboratory are of him helping with the annual Children's Holiday Party for many years. He had a great elf costume that he wore to the party, and he was very helpful in announcing the entertainer for the party and the entrance of Santa Claus, and in helping to hand out presents to the children. I missed him and his help very much when he retired. Linda Lorenz
