Robert Lee "Bob" Carver, Jr.

MADISON, Wis. - Robert Lee “Bob” Carver Jr., 71, of Madison, formerly of the Twin Cities, passed away at home on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022, with his wife, Janet, by his side. He spent many years fighting COPD and other health issues.

Bob grew up all over the United States as a U.S. Navy child. His home base was Orr, Minn. Bob graduated in 1968 from Esko High School in Minnesota. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps at the height of Vietnam. He spent three years in the Marines with a tour in Vietnam where he made Sergeant-E5 at the age of 19. After discharge he attended UMD and married his high school girlfriend, Janet Arntson.

Bob’s passions included all types of fishing, watching the History and Science channels, baseball- especially the Brewers and Twins, reading science fiction, his grandchildren and their activities, and lastly politics- including loathing Donald Trump. He was a trivia master until the day he died, sometimes accused of cheating for his array of knowledge.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. and Shirley Carver; his mother-in-law, Mary Arntson; uncle, Bill Wylie; and good friends, Tony, Dan, Paul and Lloyd.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janet; daughters, Karina Carver (Tyler Kufalk) and Samantha (Mike) Wenkman; brother, Brad (Joyce) Carver; grandchildren, Casey and Hailey Hultine, and Benji and Jacob Wenkman; aunt, Flora Belle Wylie; father-in-law, Duane Arntson; nieces and nephews, Ben, Jessica, Scott and Shawna; many in-laws and cousins; good friend, Jody Hultine; and his energetic dog, Riley.

Per Bob’s wishes, no funeral will be held, but rather a celebration of life will be held next summer in Northern Minnesota.

Dad, your passionate/witty personality, insane intelligence, handsome face, crazy thick head of hair and your willingness to give someone the shirt off your back will be sorely missed. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
