Obituary

STOUGHTON - William Wesley Buchanan, age 80, of Stoughton, formerly of Chicago, Ill., passed away on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on Nov. 25, 1941, in Chicago, Ill., the son of William Sr. and Cora (Mooi) Buchanan. Bill married Cornelia Prince on Jan. 18, 1963, in Chicago, Ill. They were blessed with 59 years of marriage.


Bill worked for Sunnyside Corporation for over 30 years, retiring as Executive Vice President. He was an active volunteer at the Stoughton Senior Center and delivered Meals on Wheels for several years. Bill was an amateur pilot. He enjoyed reading, traveling, pickle ball, bowling, and participated in a Wii Bowling League among the area senior centers. Bill was also a talented artist and woodworker. Most important to Bill was his family.


Bill is survived by wife Cornelia; son, William "Bill" Wesley (Penny) Buchanan III; daughter, Joy (Steve) Bychowski; three brothers, Richard (Janet) Buchanan, Henry (Nancy) Buchanan, John (Cindy) Buchanan; three granddaughters, Elizabeth (Nick) Fox, Jen Buchanan, Rebecca (Noah) Middleton; three grandsons, Andrew Buchanan, Kyle Buchanan, Sean Bychowski; a great-grandson, RJ Fox; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.


A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON STOUGHTON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1358 Highway 51 N. @ Jackson St., Stoughton, at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from noon until the time of the service on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022. A reception will follow at Steve and Joy's home, 232 Dewey St., Oregon, WI 53575, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Stoughton Senior Center or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
