Obituary
MADISON - Philip V. Malone Jr., age 92, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Oak Park Place. He was born on June 8, 1930, in Syracuse, N.Y., the son of Philip and Emma (Olson) Malone. He married Barbara Basel in October of 1966. They had two children, Michael and Kathleen and shared many wonderful memories together throughout the years.
Philip graduated from Wausau High School and worked as a personal aide at Mendota State Mental Health Institute throughout his life. During retirement he loved traveling with Barbara, going to sporting events, walking Cody, talking with his brother and having monthly breakfast with the boys. He adored his family and especially his grandchildren and loved to visit with them and enjoyed hearing about all their adventures.
Philip loved all sports, college and professional - particularly basketball, baseball and football. He enjoyed listening to the radio and loved Bob Uecker. Even if he was watching the Brewers on tv, he would turn down the volume and listen to him announce the game. Phil had the “gift of gab” he loved to talk about U.S. and world history, sports, the weather and everything in-between. He was warm hearted and had a smile for everyone. He had kind words for all of his family and friends. He cherished the family pets especially his two dogs, Kelly and Cody, and his naughty cat, Taylor. He loved everyone’s furry friends and would say “there was never a dog he met that he didn’t like.” Faith was very important to him, he was a faithful and devoted member of St. Dennis Catholic Church.
Philip is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Komro; grandchildren, Abigail and Caden Komro; son-in-law, Tim Komro; step-grandson, Jerry Hoffer; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; life partner, Barbara Malone; son, Michael Malone; sister, Mary Malone Kinderman; brother, Patrick (Fran) Malone; and many friends and neighbors.
Special thanks to all the staff at Oak Park Place who cared for Phil over the years.
