Obituary

CEDARVILLE- Joseph Michael "Joe" Federowicz Jr., age 69, of Cedarville, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023. He was born on July 7, 1954, in Elmhurst, Ill., the son of Joseph and Alveda (Agnello) Federowicz.

Joseph grew up in Villa Park, Ill. He loved music and playing guitar, so it was no surprise that he chose to go to school for music. He played in a small local band when he lived in Amery, Wis. He was the Credit Manager at Travelers Express, where he made many friends and met the most interesting people. He continued his Credit and Collections career at Merrill Corporation and Amery Hospital before he retired. No matter what his title was, his favorite was Grandpa. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Joseph had very traditional old school values. He was a great listener, had the best advice and always had a story to tell. Joe’s passion, however, were his dogs. He spent many hours training them to hunt with him. He was involved in and was on the Board of Directors of Northern Flight Hunting Retrievers Association in Stillwater, Minn. Many of his Chessies earned Titles when he ran them in AKC Hunt Tests. Chessies are known for being quite stubborn, but Joe somehow knew how to get them to follow his commands. It seemed like his whistle and training dummies were a part of his wardrobe most days when he wasn’t working. He always dreamed of having his own dog kennel and training facility, but never found the right location. Ginny was his first dog, an adorable Yellow Lab. When she passed, he found a love for Chesapeake Bay Retrievers and spent the rest of his life having the privilege of being owned by six Chessies.

Joseph is survived by his daughter, Christina (Dan) McKernan; stepsons, William (Amy) Hendrickson, Robert (Jeremy Laxen) Hendrickson, and Michael (Emily) Hendrickson; grandsons, William Hendrickson, Matthew Hendrickson and Beckett McKernan; granddaughters, Brynna Kotz and Ada McKernan; brother, Charles (Joanne) Federowicz; nieces and nephews; cousins, friends and many loved ones; and his beloved Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, Gina and Sarge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alveda; other relatives; and his canine companions, Ginny, Stosh, Bernie, Rainy and Sonny.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. ANN CATHOLIC PARISH, 323 N. Van Buren St., Stoughton, Wis., at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023, with Father Randy Budnar presiding. Burial will take place at Town of Dunn Burying Ground. A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON STOUGHTON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1358 Highway 51 N. @ Jackson St., Stoughton, Wis., from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.

Joe was a good friend in college as well as his brother Chuck. We played in a few bands together and always had a good time! Joe had a wonderful sense of humor and seemed like we were always laughing at something! We haven’t seen each other for years but I still think about him. Prayers for peace and comfort to Chuck and Joe’s family❤️

Christine and Family, I was fortunate to have worked beside Joe at the Amery Hospital for many years. We all learned quite quickly he was the perfect addition to our close knit family. We were blessed with his jovial jokes, unique gift in story telling , and kind hearted spirit. We all looked up to him in our own special ways. He spoke of you Christine with a sparkle in his eye and such fatherly pride in his heart. He will always be with you. The lessons your Dad taught you, the love he gave, the way he cared for people…all those good things live on in you. I hope all your special memories of such a wonderful man will bring you comfort in time. Rest in Peace dearest Joe. It was my pleasure knowing you and being friends. Deb Janis
