Obituary

In Loving Memory of Robert "Bob" Hoyle, Jr. (1938-2023)

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Robert "Bob" Hoyle, Jr., beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. Bob peacefully left this world on Dec. 15, 2023, in Madison, Wis., surrounded by the love of his family.

Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Leanne; and their two sons, Christopher of Corvallis, Ore., and Joseph (Karen Fox) of Middleton, Wis. His granddaughter Jessica brought much joy to his later life. Bob is also survived by his sister, Lucille (Robert) Reichner; as well as his nephew, Robert (Jill) Reichner; niece, Danielle (Eric) Blumenau; and was great-uncle to Isadora, Theo and Juno.

Born to Robert and Mary Hoyle in 1938, Bob attended St. Augustine Catholic Seminary in Holland, Mich., followed by St. Rita High School in Chicago, Ill., where he formed lasting connections and memories. Bob served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 to 1961 at Marine Corps Base, Twentynine Palms in California.

Bob’s career included 27 years as a salesman and manager at Canfield Beverage Company, where he developed his encyclopedic knowledge of Chicago neighborhoods. Prior to this he was employed at G&W Electric Specialty Company where he was instrumental in organizing the United Steelworkers Union local.

Bob was an avid golfer, frequently organizing golf outings for friends and neighbors and serving as president of the Wabash Avenue Golf Association. Bob and Leanne enjoyed extensive travel in the United States, Europe and the Caribbean, with London and Paris as favorite destinations.

Beyond his personal pursuits, Bob generously volunteered his time for two years at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights, Ill., followed by 11 years at St. Anthony Hospital in Crown Point, Ind., demonstrating his compassionate spirit and commitment to community service. He also served as a Fire and Police Commissioner in Glenwood, Ill., for several years.

Bob's warm and affable nature left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He will be fondly remembered as “the perfect uncle,” “always smiling,” and for his fun-loving sense of humor.

In celebration of Bob's life, a memorial gathering will take place in late winter in south suburban Chicago, where he lived and raised his family for 30 years.

Charitable donations in Bob’s name may be made to Fisher House Foundation and Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin .  Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Bob and I worked at the Canfield Beverage Company in Chicago together. He was a hard worker, always there to lend a hand. Bob had a terrific personality, and was loved by all. The golf outings Bob organized were always big events. His smile was contagious and he was cleverly funny. I hadn’t seen Bob much in these later years but would give him a call and we would pick up right where we were many years ago. He loved Leanne and his family very much. Whenever I think of him, I will smile.

Bob almost always had a smile on his face. Canfield had some bad days that sometimes got to him but not for long. He always looked for the bright side of everything. Prayers to Leanne and your family. Take care Pauline
