STOUGHTON, Wis. / RICHMOND, Ky. - Mike Karpathakis, 58, of Stoughton, Wis., formerly of Richmond, Ky., passed away on Jan. 25, 2024, after a long seven-year battle with posterior cortical atrophy (PCA), a rare early-onset variant of Alzheimer’s.
Mike was born, in Athens, Greece, in 1965, the youngest child of Emmanuel and Katina Karpathakis. Mike lived in Ohio and Kentucky before moving recently to memory care in Wisconsin. He was a graduate of Baldwin Wallace University, having earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in physics; a Bachelor of Science Degree in electrical engineering from Case Western Reserve University; and a Master of Business Administration Degree (MBA) from Eastern Kentucky University. In 1996, Mike became a proud American citizen.
Mike served for 12 years as an electrical engineer at Ajax Magnethermic Corporation in Richmond, Ky., and 14 years as an electrical engineering manager at Lexmark International, Inc. in Lexington, Ky.
Mike was predeceased by his father; uncle, Alex; and aunt, Olympia. Mike was a selfless, kind, thoughtful, and generous soul.
Mike is survived by his wife of 32 years, Melinda Murphy; daughter, Erin; mother, Katina and sister, Maria, both of Greece; and extended family in Australia, Greece, and Ohio.
Mike was adored by his wife and daughter. He loved coaching his daughter’s youth soccer teams and traveling with family. His family will forever miss and remember his beautiful smile and infectious laughter.
The family is establishing the Mike Karpathakis MBA Endowed Scholarship Fund at "Eastern Kentucky University Foundation, Inc.," CPO 19, 521 Lancaster Ave., Richmond, KY 40475 - contributions may be sent with a notation in memory of Mike Karpathakis.
