Obituary

MADISON - David Lee “Dave” Mairet Jr., age 63, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 10, 2024. He was born on Jan. 17, 1961, in Milwaukee, WI, the son of David and Mary Alice (Cotter) Mairet.

Dave graduated from Catholic Memorial High School in Waukesha, WI in 1979 and received two bachelor’s degrees from UW-Oshkosh in 1983. He worked as a computer programmer for WPS before working for 20+ years at American Family Insurance as their IT guru. He was involved in many community events as both an employee and a volunteer such as the annual CrossFit Games held in Madison, WI, various BMW golf championships across the midwest, the AmFam Championship golf tournament in Madison, WI, triathlons held through Race Day Events and the annual Bike MS bike ride.

Dave was an avid woodworker and bicyclist. He was able to put both skills to work as a volunteer in various capacities. He put a lot of time and effort into the building of the Monona Dream Park and he thoroughly enjoyed working with the Bikes for Kids Wisconsin team as a volunteer mechanic.

Dave was very family oriented. He was involved in his children’s extracurricular activities as they were growing up. You could frequently see him on any youth soccer field as both a coach and a line painter. He was a proud coach for the Monona Rebels (PEANUT BUTTER) and he was the president of the Monona Youth Soccer Association for many years. Dave also enjoyed his own athletic ventures and participated in Monday night golf and bowling leagues. He also loved attending the Indianapolis 500 annually with his family and had been to nearly 50 races.

Dave is survived by his daughter, Chelsea (Michael Maromaty) Mairet; son, Jacob Mairet; grandchild, Amelia Maromaty; parents, David and Mary Alice Mairet; brothers, Douglas (Susan) Mairet and Stephen (Heidi) Hudson-Mairet; sister, Catherine (Tim) Callahan; nephew, Colin (Katie) Mairet; nieces, Katie Mairet, Emma Hudson-Mairet, Grace Hudson-Mairet, Caitriona Treacy and Aoife Treacy; former wife, Peggy Mairet; aunts, Pauline Gogin, Ruth Ellen (Ralph) Scharnau, Donna (Dan) Lang and many Cotter cousins; and close friends, Ray and Sue Nigon.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Charlie and Marie (Blessinger) Cotter; paternal grandparents, Elmer and Pearl (Widner) Mairet; and aunts, uncles and cousins through the Cotter clan.

A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024. I worked with Dave during his 20 years at American Family. He was an all around good person. Always willing to do whatever was needed to make sure your IT needs were met and such a pleasure to talk with about life, golf and bowling. He is a good one who is gone way too early. :( Rest in Peace Dave!!

I worked many years with Dave at AmFam. He was always helpful and pleasant and just an all around decent human. I'm very sorry for the family's loss. Hopefully it gives you solace that so many people really liked Dave.

To Dave's family - I as well worked with him at American Family, he was always so very kind and helpful with all the equipment that we would use for video conferences. We would always include him on all the "goodies" that we would bring in for meetings. He was a quiet guy but so very sweet! I'm saddened to hear of his passing at such a young age - my heart hurts for his family and all that knew him!
