Viola "Vi" Angeline Cook

Obituary

MADISON - Viola “Vi” Angeline Cook, wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and from the start, daughter, passed away peacefully to be with God on the evening of Thursday, March 21, 2024, at her home. Born the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Beer) Feiner, Vi lived her life with faith, love and kindness that was shown to all that were part of her journey.

Viola married George Cook on Nov. 28, 1953. Being a mother of eight boys, words like patience, understanding and forgiveness were taken to a whole new level. She showed love that came easy and gave discipline when necessary. Coming from a large family of ten herself and growing up on a farm, hard work and a crowded house seemed natural for her.

Vi had many hobbies which included bowling, quilting, line dancing, pottery, gardening, baking, and playing organ as well as cards with friends, just to name a few. Vi always wanted people to feel comfortable around her and making others smile was something that came naturally. She was a devout Christian and a long-time member of Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. Dennis Catholic Churches.

Viola is survived by seven sons, William (Jill) Cook, Daniel (Cari) Cook, Robert (Tracy) Cook, Rich (Nola) Cook, John (Diane) Cook, Thomas Cook and James (Jackee) Cook; grandchildren, Adam, Libby, Mitchell, Matthew and Jaden; sister, Flo Feiner; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Steven Cook; husband, George L. Cook; four brothers, Felix Feiner, Al Feiner, Bill Feiner, and Louie Feiner; and four sisters, Erma O'Neill, Marrian Parker, Lucille Schreiner and Helen Hanson.

A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2024.  Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  John 3:16

Aunt Vi was a wonderful lady. I have fond memories of our family visits with the Cook family when I was growing up. I was overwhelmed with all those boy cousins! I always wondered how my aunt did it! Attached are some memories from my mother's photo album. She had a reunion with her sisters in February 2009. They all dressed up in her red hat outfits and paraded down the street! My dad gave the girls the run of house and went across the street to sleep at the neighbors. The next day he returned with red roses for each them and made them breakfast. Aunt Vi knitted me a beautiful scarf that I still wear and cherish. All my love, Pat Fraleigh (Feiner/Schreiner)
