Obituary
OREGON - Margaret Sharon Lyn Younger, age 83, of Oregon, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024, at UW Hospital and Clinics. She was born on Dec. 26, 1940, in Oakland, Calif., the daughter of Stanford Mack Ostry and Etta Minerva (Hart) Berges.
Lyn graduated from Oakland High School in 1959 in Oakland, Calif. She was united in marriage to Albert “Al” Younger on Oct. 11, 1959, in Carson City, Nev. She worked as a technical documentation supervisor for Lockheed Missiles and Space Company in Sunnyvale, Calif. for almost 20 years. After leaving her job at Lockheed in 1993, she started a paralegal business venture with her husband, Al, until they both retired in 2001.
Lyn loved her family. She cherished her role as a grandmother and gave her time freely to her grandchildren. She loved watching movies and knew all the current actors’ names; she especially enjoyed watching scary movies with her sons. Lyn enjoyed cross stitching, embroidering and crochet. She was an avid reader, often finishing two or three books per week. Al said Lyn was the smartest person he knew, and he often urged her to go on Jeopardy! She was a talented cook and baker and will be fondly remembered for her amazing desserts and specialty cakes. She also made sure to teach her sons, Cole and “J” (Albert Jr.), to cook. Lyn and Al loved taking cruises and traveling together. Lyn was the main communicator in her family and had a wonderful gift of keeping everyone connected.
Lyn is survived by her husband of 65 years, Al; sons, Cole (Kathryn) Younger and Albert “J” (Randi) Younger; grandchildren, Coleman Younger, Katherine (Robert) Douglas and Elizabeth (Kale) Caro, Emma Younger and Sam (Morgan) Younger; great-grandchild, Cooper; and sisters, Karen Kent and Esther Heath. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanford and Etta; and brothers, Robert Ostry and Terry Hart.
The family would like to thank the wonderful palliative care team at UW Hospital for making Lyn’s transition as comfortable as possible.
A Celebration of Lyn’s life will be held this summer, date to be determined.
