Obituary
STOUGHTON - Marcia Joyce (Woodward) BonDurant, age 77, of Stoughton, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024, surrounded by family at Select Specialty Hospital. She was born on Aug. 10, 1946, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Vernon and Marlys (Kelley) Woodward. Marcia is survived by her husband, William; son, Brian (Justine) BonDurant; daughter, Kelly (Ricky) Seidel; grandchildren, Delaney Seidel, Teagan Seidel and Miranda BonDurant; and brothers, Vernon "Woody" (Stephanie) Woodward and Charles "Chad" Woodward. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Marlys; and sister, Kathleen “Katie" Woodward.
Marcia graduated from West High School in 1964. Receiving her nursing degree from Madison General, she then continued her nursing career at UW Hospital.
The oldest of four siblings, Katie, Woody and Chad Woodward, Marcia found her True Love, William BonDurant “Nonny,” at West High Schools rival, East High School in Madison. Bill and Marcia were united in marriage on Aug. 22, 1970.
Although constantly pledging her life to helping others, she always said how everything changed for her when she had her children, Brian “Zookers” and Kelly “Beaner.” Her family was her sole focus, and she worried over and took care of them until the end, sometimes to the exclusion of her own needs. Marcia walked her own path. She valued loyalty, honesty, and authenticity. She believed that everyone could reach their full potential if they just believed in themselves.
Marcia had an amazing sense of humor and a beautiful laugh! Her wit was razor sharp and she was known to say the most shocking thing she could think of, in hopes of helping you see a new perspective. She made her whole family laugh with her outrageous and exaggerated facial expressions, and all her silly sayings. She was kind, generous and compassionate. Even when she spoke in anger, she was often the first to apologize, try to heal what was broken, and never go to sleep angry. She loved her entire family. She worried about them, rooted for them, protected them, resented them, forgave them, and always kept on loving them.
When the three grandchildren were born, Delaney, Miranda and Teagan, it began a whole new chapter for her, and “Yamma” was born. And although her mobility began to wane as the years went on, she helped to raise them, teach them, and care deeply for them - they always shared a look, a nod, a smile, an inside joke, or sometimes something just as simple as just looking up at the moon and the stars at the cabin waiting for the fish to bite. She also enjoyed going to the casino, crafting, game nights with friends, and fishing.
She played an intricate part in Attic Angels, Edgewood High Schools Drama department and Edgefest. As well as supporting swim team organizations from Mazomanie, Cross Plains, and Madison.
She had a saying that rings so true - To the World you may be one person, but to one person you could be the world - For those that truly knew her - she was exactly that!
Marcia will be deeply missed by all those she has touched over the years and will forever be in our hearts.
