Obituary
COTTAGE GROVE - Henry Devotion Forbes Jr., age 70, of Cottage Grove, passed away at his recent home in Mazomanie on Saturday, May 25, 2024. He was born on May 29, 1953, in Moyock, N.C., the son of Henry Sr. and Grace (Smithson) Forbes.
Henry graduated from East Madison High School in 1972 and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Maggie Forbes on Dec. 17, 2023, in Black Earth. He worked as an industrial painter for Weir Mineral Company, retiring on Dec. 31, 2023.
Henry had a wonderful sense of humor and loved telling jokes. He also enjoyed playing the guitar.
Henry is survived by his wife, Maggie Forbes; his daughter, Katherine (James) Autry; his grandchildren, Jaycee Campbell, Jackson Campbell, and Kaitlyn Campbell; his stepson, David (Misty) Deal; and sisters, Jenell Forbes, Shirley (Neil) Grover, and Peggy Tesch. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Grace; and a sister, Barbara Jean Forbes Curry.
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12 noon on Friday, June 7, 2024. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
