Obituary

MOUNT HOREB - Born in Minneapolis on May 27, 1938, Lynn Bliss-Iverson was the only child of Fred and Marion Gaertner of Minneapolis. She died peacefully of natural causes on Aug. 1, 2024.

Lynn graduated from Robbinsdale High School in Minneapolis in 1956. She spent two years studying nursing at the University of Colorado-Boulder and completed a BSN in nursing at LSU in New Orleans, La. Lynn is survived by her husband, Duane Iverson of Mount Horeb, Wis.; three children, Lorilee Schoenbeck (partner, Bryan Osborne) of Essex Junction, Vt., Jodie Schmidt (husband, Johnny Schmidt) of Oregon, Wis., and John Schoenbeck (wife, Sandy Schoenbeck) of Milton, Ga; and Lynn’s granddaughter, Danielle Schmidt of Madison, Wis.

Lynn had an active nursing career, beginning with hospital nursing. She subsequently worked for the American Red Cross of Dane County, where she developed their infant car seat program, and also found time to do volunteer nursing at Planned Parenthood in Madison. Lynn then went on to work in home health care, and was instrumental in establishing and directing a home health care agency for the local Hmong community, taught nursing at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison and volunteered on the Caribbean Island of St. Lucia as an ER nurse. Lynn finished her nursing career at MATC’s Madison campus as the college’s school nurse for over a decade.

A favorite pastime was singing with the Fitchburg singers and playing piano, especially during the holidays with her family. She loved golf, was able to play some very challenging courses (Pebble Beach was a favorite) and was even Stoughton’s Women’s Club Champion in 1974.

Lynn and Duane loved to travel which brought them to warmer climates during the winter. Perhaps their favorite destination was Mexico where she and Duane volunteered at a Humane Society in San Jose Del Cabo. At home in Mount Horeb, Lynn also volunteered for both the Iowa and Dane County Humane Societies for many years. She was a natural at caring for the baby calves on the farm with Duane.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be gifted in Lynn’s name to the Iowa County Humane Society (www.ichs.net).

You had to be very special being a nurse and especially working at St Mary's Hospital and Nursing School. I am sorry for this major loss and know she will be greatly mussed. If Sandy worked at St Mary's Hospital Medical Intensive care, 1980s, please tell her "hi." We were such good friends I was always hoping to run into you. Donna Handel- Vorgurger
