Obituary
MADISON - Judy (Johnson) Padden, age 89, of Madison, formerly of La Crosse, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's for more than a decade. She passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family and caregivers. She was born on December 30, 1934, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Newbert and Catherine Johnson.
Judy was a talented musician and had a love for classical music. She was a church organist at the age of 14, accompanying weekly church services, weddings, and funerals for nearly 50 years. She was also a beloved piano teacher in the La Crosse area.
She married the love of her life, Duane Padden, on August 25, 1956. They had four children, two grandchildren, and were very active in their church. Along with her love of music, Judy was an avid bird watcher and Brewers baseball fan. She enjoyed spending time with family, camping, and bird watching while visiting state parks throughout Wisconsin. Judy and Duane especially loved exploring the Great Lake lighthouses and Door County.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Duane, in 2016. She is survived by son, John (Faith) Hirdler-Padden; daughters, Nancy Padden Venuta (Vinny Venuta), Diane Padden (Neil Chandler), Jenny Padden (Jim Sterk); grandson, Joe Venuta; and granddaughter, Sara Sterk. A special thanks to the kind and caring staff from All Saints Memory Care who treated Judy like family.
A memorial service will be held at Gunderson Fitchburg Funeral and Cremation Care, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024, with the Rev. Daniel Kowert presiding. It will be immediately followed by a “Wine Time” reception (Judy’s favorite time of day) with wine, light snacks, and some of Judy’s favorite wine-time music at the funeral home until 5:30 p.m.
Judy had a beautiful smile and kept it right until the very end. We are comforted knowing that Judy can be Judy again, reunited with Duane, making beautiful music together.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
