CROSS PLAINS - George M. Loomis, Jr., age 78, of Cross Plains, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at home. He was born on August 1, 1946, in Brooklyn, Wis., the son of George and Charlotte (Knight) Loomis.
George graduated from Oregon High School. He was united in marriage to Angela Padrutt on May 15, 1971, at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, in Cross Plains. George worked as an accountant for Electronic Theater Controls (ETC), retiring in 2020. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Jaycees, and the Brooklyn-Oregon American Legion Post No. 160. He and his wife, Angie, were very active members of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Cross Plains.
George was an avid golfer and enjoyed golf outings with his family. When his boys were younger, he served as their baseball and soccer coach. He also played softball throughout his life, until he was in his 60s.
George is survived by his wife, Angie; sons, Joel (Tina) Loomis, Jonathan Loomis and Justin Loomis; brother, Harold (Chris) Loomis; sisters, Louise (Wally) McCord and Mary (Peter) Burling; granddaughters, Courtney (Carsten) Davis, Abigail Loomis, Taylor Kratochwill-Loomis and Taryn Loomis; grandsons, Austyn Kovacs, Gavyn Loomis and Caiden Loomis; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes St., Cross Plains, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, with Father Michael Wanta presiding. Burial will take place at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON CROSS PLAINS FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE FROM, 2421 Church St., Cross Plains, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Wednesday.
