Obituary

MADISON - Jose Villarreal, age 56, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on October 8, 2024, at his home. He was born on June 19, 1968, in Wautoma, Wisconsin, to Perfecto D. and Consuelo G. Villarreal.


He was the youngest of 15 siblings: Perfecto Jr., Alberto, Carlos, Rolando, Jesus, Mary Jane, Martha Ortiz, Maria Banuelos, Yolanda, Ramona, Hilda Natera, Sara, Benita, and Diana Bontrager.


Jose was raised in Laredo, Texas, where he attended school and played football as a safety for Cigarroa High School. It was also in Laredo that he developed a passion for boxing at the Boys Club. In his senior year, he moved to Madison, attended the Madison East High School, Operation Fresh Start Program, and earned his GED.


Jose dedicated 18 years of his life working as a material handler for Danisco, where he became known for his unmatched reliability and strong work ethic. He was proud to have never missed a single day of work during his entire tenure, a testament to his dedication and commitment to providing for his family. His attention to detail, dependability, and positive attitude made him a highly respected and valued member of their team. Over the years, he built lasting relationships with his colleagues, who admired his professionalism and friendly nature. Jose's contributions were integral to the smooth running of operations, and his legacy as a hardworking and reliable professional will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of working with him.


Jose was deeply passionate about boxing, and his career spanned several years. He was a proud recipient of the prestigious Golden Gloves award, marking his skill and dedication to the sport. His accomplishments in boxing were a significant part of his life, and his competitive spirit left a lasting impact on those who knew him.


Jose is survived by his beloved children, Ashton LaReau, Apolinar, Jose Jr., Rico, Evonne, and Aurelio Villarreal. Each of his children held a special place in his heart, and he was immensely proud of the individuals they had become. In addition to his children, Jose leaves behind many cherished grandchildren who brought him great joy and filled his heart with love. His legacy will continue through the generations as his spirit, values, and strength are reflected in the lives of his family.


A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 4 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2024. with Father Gary Krahenbuhl presiding. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
