Obituary

COTTAGE GROVE - Shari L. Purcell, born May 20, 1970, of Cottage Grove, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on October 2, 2025. She was born in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Roland and Mary Anne (Statezny) Terracina.

Shari grew up with older sister, Lori, and younger brother, Mikel, graduating from La Follette High School in 1988. Five years later, on March 27, 1993, she married the love of her life, Thomas Purcell. Together they had two children, Chandler and Kendall, and built a home full of love, laughter, and family. Shari worked as a claims adjuster at American Family Insurance, balancing her career with her deep dedication to her loved ones. She adored her family and shared an especially close bond with her parents, always making sure they were cared for-even during her most difficult days.

From the start, Shari was the kind of person who showed up. No matter what. She never sweat the small stuff and helped others rise above it too. Always radiating warmth, strength, and generosity, and lighting up every room with her infectious positivity and easygoing spirit. She loved sharing jokes and stories over a good meal and was the best shopping partner. Somehow she had the perfect advice for every situation. That talent extended to her passion for travel as well. She was the trusted planner of all family trips, skillfully handling every detail to make each journey unforgettable.

Shari accepted everyone with an open heart and was fiercely supportive of the people she loved. Family and friends alike were truly seen and valued in her presence. She never forgot a birthday, a celebration, or even the little details. Because for Shari, love lives in the small moments shared together and that’s what matters most.

Shari is survived by her husband, Thomas; son, Chandler (Morgan) Purcell; daughter, Kendall (Jacob Calhoun) Purcell; grandchild, Everley Purcell; sister, Lori Livesey; brother, Mikel (Lissa) Terracina; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Shari was my Midwest mom, she never hesitated to include me in plans when she came to visit Kendall for school. I remember my first holiday away from home, and Shari made me feel so welcome and like I was a part of the family. Shari your love touched so many people and you were a true testament to the phrase “to have a village you must be a village.” I love you and your memory lives on in the faces of the beautiful family you created.
