STEVENS POINT/SUN PRAIRIE - Lester C. Henning, Jr. age 90, of Sun Prairie, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital. He was born on October 12, 1935, in Janesville, the son of Lester and Therese (Henke) Henning Sr.
Les graduated from Milton High School in 1955 and proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He was united in marriage to Suzanne Wilde on Oct. 18, 1958.
Les dedicated his professional career to banking, working as a loan officer and banker before retiring from First National/M&I Bank in Stevens Point after many years of service. Throughout his career, he served communities from Janesville to Stevens Point, building lasting relationships with customers and colleagues alike.
Les treasured time spent with family, especially gathering for backyard barbecues and picnics. He had a remarkable gift for striking up a conversation and making new friends wherever he went. He enjoyed golfing, bowling in leagues, and playing card games and backgammon with family and friends. In his younger years, he played basketball, including during his service in the Navy, and later shared his love of the game by coaching his son's youth basketball teams.
A devoted sports fan, Les faithfully followed the Chicago Cubs, Packers and enthusiastically supported Wisconsin Badgers athletics. Nothing brought him greater joy than cheering on his granddaughters at their volleyball and softball games in Wisconsin and Kentucky. He also enjoyed John Wayne movies, reading and learning about history.
Les is survived by his wife, Suzanne ; son, Gregg (Diane) Henning; grandchildren, Jessica (Alex) Suchon, Rachael Henning, Cassandra (fiancé, Kyle) Henning, Lisa (Tony ) Bartley and Rebekah (Morgan Sheets) Henning; great-grandchildren, Shelby and Natalie, Colton and Jace, and Sawyer and Tatum; and sister, Priscilla (Steve) McDonnell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kurt (Mary) Henning; and brothers, Kenneth (Marge) Henning and Raymond (Ginger) Henning.
