William "Bill" R. Benson
October 19, 1958 - July 20, 2026
Obituary
MADISON - William “Bill” R. Benson, age 67, of Lake Mills, formally of Madison, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 20, 2026. William was born on October 19, 1958, in Madison, the son of Virgil and Sharon (Ashard) Benson.
Bill married Remick Blaser on August 24, 2003, in Madison. He attended La Follette High School and graduated first in his class from Diesel Truck Driving School. Growing up, Bill spent the summers traveling with his family's food concession business, working fairs and festivals. His experience with the family business led him in later years to run his own crew and routes throughout the country, before pursuing his 30-year trucking career. Bill drove for Pulvermacher, Holland, and Royle Printing.
Bill enjoyed survival-type camping, sleeping in a hammock and cooking over an open fire. He was an incredible handyman that could fix anything that he put his mind to - things as simple as home appliances to as complex as the lithium portion in the battery of his 2008 Toyota Prius. His quick wit and incredibly passionate personality will be remembered by those he was closest to.
William is survived by his wife of 22 years, Remick Benson of Lake Mills; the pride of his life, his two daughters, Sawyer (19) and Evyn (18), and stepdaughter, Dakota (Garrett) Lederman of Brodhead; his grandchildren, Lake (3) and Laddy (1) Lederman; his sister, Susan (Dean Olson) Benson of Lodi; sister-in-law, Carole Benson of Sun Prairie; aunt, Mary (Charlie) Miller of Sun Prairie; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Lorraine Ashard; his parents, Virgil and Sharon; and his two brothers, James and Joe Benson.
