MADISON / SUN PRAIRIE - Richard D. Rickey, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. He was born on June 7, 1935, in Madison, the oldest of six children to Frank and Dorothy (Ophime) Rickey.
Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, enlisting at a young age. He took great pride in his military service throughout his life. Following his time in the Navy, Richard worked as a custodian for the Madison Metropolitan School District for 35 years before retiring.
Richard enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He loved gambling, spending time at the casinos, playing pull tabs and drinking a cold beer. He was a devoted Wisconsin sports fan, and loved cheering on the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers and Wisconsin Badgers.
Richard is survived by his children, Tracy (Greg), Rhonda (James), Michael, Kelly (Kristi) and Brian (Carrie) Rickey; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; life partner, Mary Hauser; and beloved daughter, Tammy.
