Obituary
POYNETTE - Jonathon Paul Deans, age 40, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. He was born on January 19, 1986, in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin, and graduated from Poynette High School in 2004.
Jon grew up learning small-town values, the importance of hard work, responsibility, and doing a job the right way while helping his dad on the farm. Those lessons stayed with him throughout his life and served him well as an entrepreneur. He proudly owned and operated JP Deans Exteriors, his roofing and siding company for the last 16 years. Whether he was on a roof making a repair, offering help to those who needed it, or teaching his children how to be independent and intentional people, he was always there with a steady hand and a side of playful banter. He took pride in his work and enjoyed working alongside his long-time work partner, Carl Olson. They made a magnificent team.
Jonathon married Rene Schaller on June 2, 2012. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with warmth, laughter, and a love that extended well beyond the walls of their home and into the lives of family, friends, neighbors, and their community. Jon worked hard to make his family’s dreams reality. He even took care of the household tasks everybody else dreaded. He enjoyed hosting holiday gatherings, and celebrations, and any time his children had friends over, which was often. Any kid who walked through his door was treated as one of his own. Jon loved being a dad more than anything. Participating in his children’s lives was his greatest joy. He was there for sporting events, dance recitals, daddy-daughter dances, family vacations, and countless ordinary days in between. For Jon, the ordinary moments like bedtime routines or rides to and from practice mattered the most, and he showed up no matter how tired or busy he was.
An avid outdoorsman, Jon treasured time spent hunting, fishing, supporting his cousin Joey’s racing events, and going for walks with his bestest canine buddy, George. He also looked forward to the biannual “men only weekends” at the cabin, and any chance to spend time with the boys, playing cards, telling stories, laughing, and enjoying the friendships that meant so much to him.
As a self-proclaimed man of few words, Jon showed his big heart in the quiet, consistent ways that speak volumes; loyalty, acts of service, deep rooted morals, and keeping things lighthearted. Those fortunate enough to know Jon loved him and will remember him as a man who was dedicated to his family, always had a dad joke ready, and whose laugh could make strangers feel like they were old friends. His unmistakable chuckle, generosity, and easy way with people left a lasting mark on his family and community.
Jonathon is survived by his wife, Rene; his children, James, Bella, Denali, and Ehzaleigh; his father, Craig (Diane) Deans; his mother, Phillis Werning; father-in-law, Michael Schaller; his sisters, Chelsea Werning, Amber (Steve) Steinke and Laura Schaller; his brothers, Bob (Morgan) Blakley, John Schaller and Jeremiah (Allynda) Schaller; his grandmothers Carol Deans, Francita Schaller, and Katie McCoy, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who will carry his memory forward.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eugene Deans, Paul and Patsy Dorn, and Robert Schaller; mother-in-law, Teresa Schaller; and his cousins, Mitchell Frey and Justin Vandre.
