MIDDLETON - Mayra Ruth Tejera-Vollmar, age 81, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Hattie’s Bay in Middleton. She was born in Cuba on September 14, 1945, the daughter of Virginio and Ruth (Galvez) Tejera.
Mayra earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a degree in Spanish and dedicated her career to teaching in Milwaukee elementary schools and continued in education in Broward County, Florida. She found great joy in nurturing young minds and was known for her patience and kindness in the classroom. Beyond her professional life, Mayra enjoyed gardening, crafting, painting, and playing card games with her friends.
She is survived by her sons, Kent Vollmar and Keith Vollmar; sister, Marta (Otto) Suarez; and many cousins, other relatives and friends. Mayra was preceded in death by her parents, Virginio and Ruth Maria Tejera; son, Kurt Vollmar; and brother, Carlos Tejera.
A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2026.
