Obituary

OREGON - Michael P. McGuire (Mike) passed away in his home in Oregon, Wisconsin on September 24, 2026, at the age of 73.  He was born on January 11, 1953 in Beloit, Wisconsin to Edward and Ella McGuire.  Mike graduated from Beloit Memorial High School and went on to study biology at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.  Out of college, Mike served as a Sheboygan County Humane Society Officer.  From there, he moved to a career of more than three decades with Wisconsin Power & Light and Alliant Energy.  After retirement, Mike lent his expertise as a project manager and consultant for multiple renewable energy firms.  In his last professional endeavor, he dedicated his time and talents as an investor and key employee at Wisconsin Brewing Company.

Mike adored and loved his two sons, daughters-in-law, granddaughters, and Irish Setters.  He cherished his close relationships with neighbors and brought a smile to those he knew well and called friends.  Mike had a natural affinity for animals and nature.  He found peace, harmony, and tranquility in the natural world.  Mike always sought to comfort people and provided thoughtful words and steady encouragement to those around him.  His drive to help others succeed and overcome life’s obstacles left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.  Mike thrived on challenging projects and complex problems.  His remarkable ability to create something extraordinary out of nothing was a true testament to his brilliant mind and creative spirit.  Mike filled his golden years with global adventures and documented his experiences through breathtaking, freelance wildlife photography.  He lived in the moment and did not take life for granted.  These attributes, qualities, and passions were the hallmarks of Mike’s life and character; adding, one thing remained constant throughout his adult life, his mullet – business in the front, party in the back!

Mike is survived by his sons, Jordan McGuire (Ekaterina Timofeeva) and Ben McGuire (Kristen); his granddaughters, Bryn and Callie; his brothers, Daniel McGuire (Cindy) and Tom McGuire (Amy); and his former wife, Jolene Falco (Jim).

The family will hold a private funeral service with a public celebration of life to follow at a later date.

At Mike’s request, and in lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor his life can make a donation to the Dane County Humane Society or a reputable veterans charity. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com

Mike was a close friend and work associate for 30+ years at Alliant Energy and later on an 80 mile transmission line for a wind farm in Colorado. We enjoyed motorcycle trips and had many fun times together. I've never met anyone so talented in so many different areas of expertise. He was truly the hardest working person I've known putting in long hours on whatever project he undertook. A generous man who loved family, friends, and animals alike. He is greatly missed. Ed Morgan

Dearest Mike, I first met you when Great Dane Japan was just getting started. At that time, I knew absolutely nothing about brewing beer, but you kindly taught me so many things and always took the time to help me. I will always treasure the tool you made especially for me, with my name on it, so that even someone as small as me could tighten the clamps more easily. I will keep it safe forever and carry it with me as I work at the brewery every day. It will always be a special reminder of you and a good-luck charm for me. Now that I have become a brewer myself, I wish more than anything that I could have seen you again and talked with you about all the things I have learned and experienced since then. I miss you so much, Mike. Thank you for everything you taught me and for all the kindness you showed me. I will always remember you and carry your memory with me. Rest in peace. With huge love and gratitude, Izumi

Sometimes life writes the most beautiful stories through the smallest coincidences: a sprained ankle for Judy by the side of the road and a spontaneous rescue at a bus stop in Berchtesgaden, Bavaria, back in 2013, was the quirky but wonderful beginning of a lifelong friendship. What started at that bus stop grew over the years into a deep, cherished bond with Mike, Judy, and Pat that we held very close to our hearts. This special friendship led us to visit America in May 2015, where we spent an unforgettable and wonderful time together. It was a reunion that brought us even closer across borders. Through Mike, we were also blessed to meet many new, wonderful friends. It is our deepest wish—and we know it is exactly what Mike would have wanted—to nurture and grow these friendships. In doing so, our connection to him will never fade, and he will forever remain a living part of us all. Mike was an extraordinary person who enriched our lives in so many ways. His warmth, his bright mind, and his boundless joy for life made every encounter with him truly special. A moment we will cherish in our hearts forever was in 2023, when Mike, along with Judy and Pat, made the long journey to Italy to celebrate our wedding with us. Having him there on this important day, sharing it with such dear friends, meant the world to us. In Mike, we have lost one of our best friends, whose inspiring spirit will stay with us forever. He leaves behind a painful void, but his love and the connections he created will remain. We miss him dearly. With deepest love and in silent remembrance, Marcel & Nicole

I doubt I will ever meet another person who could do absolutely anything, and do it masterfully. That was Mike. He even did friendship better than anyone I know. One thing I learned from Mike is to live life like you'll never get another day. He made the world a wonderful place while he was in it. I am thinking Heaven is now better than ever. Love you, brother.

The eulogy says it all so well. There has never been a spirit as bright and shiny as Mike's. The gleam in his eye, and the sly chuckle (always the chuckle) always let you know that the fun was in the story somewhere! His energy was unending and his heart was huge. Jordan and Ben inherited that from him. That mullet will be sorely missed.
