Megan Herfel

OREGON / VIROQUA - Megan Michelle Herfel, age 40, of Oregon, Wisconsin, passed away due to heart surgery complications on September 12, 2026. She was born on January 23, 1986, to David and Trudy (Sands) Treptow in Viroqua, Wisconsin.

Megan was a beautiful, strong, loving, and compassionate person whose presence made the lives of those around her better. She had a natural smile and a gift for making people feel comfortable, welcome, and cared for, without ever needing to be the center of attention.

She was proud of the roots that shaped her and carried the warmth and values of her upbringing throughout her life. She earned her bachelor’s degree in business from UW-La Crosse and built a career at P/C Nametag in Verona, Wisconsin, where she formed lasting friendships and meaningful relationships with those around her.

Megan was active, determined, and strong, but perhaps her greatest strength was her heart. She paid close attention to the needs of others and often found quiet ways to help without seeking recognition. Her kindness was thoughtful and genuine, and she had a rare ability to make people feel valued simply by being herself.

Megan also embraced adventure. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time outdoors, trying new things, and sharing experiences with the people she loved. Rather than simply supporting others in their interests, Megan joined in wholeheartedly, becoming an enthusiastic partner in every adventure and helping create memories that will last a lifetime.

For more than 19 years, Megan shared that life with her loving husband, Stan, including 13 years of marriage. Together they built a life grounded in friendship, love, and laughter, filled with travel, family, fishing, hunting, and countless shared experiences. Their home and their lives were also made brighter by Megan’s beloved dog and special companion, Finn, who held a very special place in her heart. They found joy not only in major adventures, but also in the ordinary moments of everyday life.

Family was at the center of Megan’s life. She especially cherished her brother, Ben, his wife Dawn, and their children, Charli and Jack. Her relationship with her sister-in-law grew into one of her most treasured friendships, becoming the sister Megan had always dreamed of having. As an aunt, Megan was warm, patient, and deeply devoted. She loved watching Charli and Jack grow, listening to them, playing with them, and making sure they always knew how loved and important they were to her.

Megan’s warmth, humor, and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She made people feel welcome and important, brought happiness to those around her, and had a way of making even an ordinary day feel special. Her beautiful smile, thoughtful nature, love for her family, and enthusiasm for life will remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Megan leaves behind her loving husband, Stan; her parents, David and Trudy Treptow; her brother, Ben (Dawn) Treptow and their children, Charli and Jack; as well as a large circle of family, friends, coworkers, and loved ones whose lives were touched by hers.

Megan’s life was defined not by its length, but by the love, kindness, and joy she gave during her time here. She lived with strength, loved generously, and left every place she entered a little brighter.

A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, Wis., from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
