EVANSVILLE - Richard G. Cross age 77, passed away peacefully Friday, September 11, 2026. He was born on May 5, 1949, in Madison, Wis., the son of Richard A. Cross and Marjorie Blumer-Darling. Rick married Jyl Saleska and they shared 20 years together. Rick spent over 30 years on the open road as a dedicated over-the-road semi driver. Known for his outgoing personality, Rick never met a stranger he didn't strike up a conversation with. He was a man of many passions, earning a black belt in Karate, riding motorcycles, and enjoying camping. In his retirement, he loved nothing more than relaxing with his favorite westerns. Above all, Rick was a deeply loving husband, father, son, and grandfather who cherished every moment surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his wife, Jyl Cross; children, Scott McChesney, Melinda (Riley) O'Brien, Melissa (James) Rane and Miranda Cross; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; stepsons, Ron Steiner and Randy (Cindy) Steiner; stepdaughter, Ramona (Ron) Fowler; mother, Marjorie (Dean) Blumer-Darling; and brothers, James Cross and Ronnie Cross. Rick was preceded in death by his father, Richard A. Cross; his former wife, Kathleen A. Cross; and stepson, Ricky Steiner.
A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026, with the Rev. Ron Gay presiding. Burial will take place at Prairie Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, and at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.
