Obituary

STOUGHTON - David M. Kman, a resident of Stoughton, Wisconsin, passed away Monday, August 31, 2026, at the age of 71. Born August 12, 1955, in Evanston, Illinois, the second child of George James Kman, Jr., and Anita Aileen Kman (nee Aster), Dave grew up in Chicago and Arlington Heights, Illinois and graduated with the 1973 class of Prospect High School in Mount Prospect, Illinois. His academic achievements at Prospect included being listed in the Who’s Who Among American High School Students.

Dave’s smile was contagious, always a grin from ear to ear. From childhood through adulthood, anytime a camera was aimed in his direction, he would float across the screen doing a goofy dance with that silly grin on his face. He loved playing the comedic ham and making people laugh. He wasn’t satisfied with a giggle, he would go all out to give you that hurt-your-stomach belly laugh. He was our “funny man.” Dave also fought his demons, and with the help of the Stoughton recovery community, he became and remained sober for over 27 years. David was thankful for the support he received from the Stoughton recovery community and continued to help others until the day he passed.

Upon moving to Wisconsin in the early 2000s, Dave became an avid Brewer’s fan and enjoyed teasing his mom when they beat her beloved Chicago Cubs. After retiring, Dave enjoyed being able to spend more time with his beloved son, Adam, whom he had late in life. He also enjoyed going to the casino. In the past several years, Dave became an avid reader of the Bible, reading every day and completing the Holy Book in its entirety several times.

Dave is survived by his children, Adam, Michael and Christine; his grandson, Nico; his mother, Anita Kman; seven siblings, George Kman, III (Diane Herdegen), Georgiann (Ronald) O’Bryan, Susan (David Scheen, Diane (Alan) Lubow, Gary (Christine) Kman, Karen Van Heirseele, and Kathy (Michael) Pierce; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, George Kman, Jr.

A private service will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

I've known Dave for about the last eight years from the Stoughton Alano Club. He would show up nearly every day for our Noon meetings. He was a jokester and fun to be around. Dave and I got into music trivia as we were both from the same age group. He will be missed by so many of his recovering friends!

As Dave’s little brother, he taught me some not so good things growing up, but it was all good. No one got hurt. We shared sooo many memories. When I was younger, he had a job delivering ice. He took me along with him ( which I don’t think the company knew). I remember telling him that this was the best summer job. Even though we had an age difference, later in life we reconnected and I’m so happy we did. I love you Dave! ❤️🙏🏼 Shine down on us from time to time. You are definitely missed by Chris and I. 🙏🏼

Dave brighten my heart and soul every week he cherished his children and talked about them often. He always asked me about my daughter every single week as my daughter and his son share the exact same birthday and year Dave I’m still so sad to hear and coming to terms with this I love you forever.

I remember when Dave first came to Stoughton Alano group. He loved it. He loved Wisconsin. I saw him all through his 27 years. The highlight was his speaking at the Saturday speaker meeting. He felt good about his talk, as he should have. Dave will be greatly missed at the noon meeting. Dave was a good guy.
