While in high school, Ted worked on the family farm and the Oregon truck stop. After high school, he operated the Oregon Gulf gas station and then Ted’s Car Care Center in Stoughton. In 1965, he enlisted in the military and served in the Wisconsin 13 EVAC Hospital. He made a career change to become a technician with the U.S. Army working behind a desk instead of under a car hood. He transferred to the 44th General Hospital where he spent his remaining working years. In his final years of service, he was activated during Desert Storm and was responsible for setting up a hospital in Germany.
In his off hours he volunteered for about 13 years with the Brooklyn Fire Department.
Ted was proud to have retired from the Army with the rank of CW4. He was proud of serving his country and helping his community with fire protection. He valued the friendships he made throughout his life.
