Obituary

MADISON - Daniel Jacob Dietlin, age 28, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Agrace HospiceCare. He was born on May 8, 1998, in Madison, the son of William “Bill” and Maureen Dietlin of Fitchburg.

Daniel graduated from Verona Area High School in 2016. He was employed as an Operator for Thysse Printing in Oregon. He enjoyed working with the staff and learning new skills in the printing process.

Daniel had a passion for many activities and enjoyed staying active and exploring the outdoors. He loved shooting sports, including sporting clays, traps and both long- and short-range shooting. He also enjoyed motorsport drifting, rock climbing, mountain biking and hiking at Devil’s Lake State Park. He had a particular love for his 1991 Miata convertible and cherished the days when he could put the top down and enjoy the open air.

Daniel had a great sense of humor and a strong, independent spirit. He was deeply devoted to his family and was a loyal friend who could always be counted on. He was a hardworking person with a strong sense of justice and fairness, always taking the time to hear both sides of a story.

Daniel is survived by his parents, William and Maureen; brother, Matthew (Renee) Dietlin; and sister, Katie (Max Harding) Dietlin.

I met Dan through simulation drifting on a team called Shadow Realm a few years back, and ever since I first spoke with him, I immediately knew I wanted to be his friend. Dan had a way of radiating a positive energy around him when he spoke to you, even through a screen, you could feel his sincerity. He was always so full of adventure and energy, you could never keep up with him sometimes because he’d be on some crazy hiking trail or biking or shooting at the range with his mom. I always loved receiving pictures in my DM’s from Dan of some wild adventure he was on, even if it wasn’t that exciting, it was always nice to see him out and enjoying the nicer things life has to offer. He really knew what he loved, and I loved that about him. He also really knew what he didn’t love, and I poked fun at him sometimes for it. One thing he didn’t love is spooky or scary stuff, including horror games, so of course I roped him into a recurring tradition of playing Phasmophobia, a scary ghost hunting game. Playing a spooky game like that with someone like Dan is a good way to take something scary and turn it into something completely and utterly hilarious. Dan would always manage to find the cursed item and fail miserably to hide it from our other teammate, Apex, who loves to troll us with the cursed item. Usually winds up with either me or Dan getting hunted by the ghost and perishing. Another thing Dan loved was Formula Drift, the American pinnacle of professional drifting. A lot of us at Team Shadow Realm love Formula Drift, but not many of the teammates have the opportunity to spectate the Road Atlanta round live in person, so of course Dan had to make himself one of those people who’s gotten to spectate a Road Atlanta round, despite living in Wisconsin. I’m so thankful he got to see the utter chaos of FD ATL in person. I love you forever and always Dan. Thank you so much for being there for me and so many others on the team in so many ways. You were truly the best of us. Long live Dan Dietlin.
