SUN PRAIRIE - Theodore Clarence Cree, age 83, of Sun Prairie, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital. Born on November 15, 1942, in Riverside, Calif., to Clarence and Zelma (Flippo) Cree, Theodore lived a life defined by devotion to Christ, to his family, and to his church.

Theodore graduated from Polytechnic High School in Riverside and went on to earn both a master's degree and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy as an A-7 Corsair II pilot aboard the USS Constellation and as a flight instructor at the Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida. On August 3, 1974, he married the love of his life, Betty Jean (Field) Cree, in Riverside. He later worked as a project engineer for Reynolds Transfer & Storage, where he remained until his retirement.

Theodore was a founding member of Grace Evangelical Church, where he faithfully served as an elder, musician, and mentor to many. For 39 years, he sang in the church's men's quartet, accompanied on piano by his wife, Jean. Sharing music together and with his children and church family was one of the great joys of his life.

A lifelong aviation enthusiast, Theodore had a particular appreciation for military aircraft and the history of flight. He also enjoyed high-quality audio equipment, a carefully curated music collection, and long drives in his beloved Corvette. He will be remembered for his sharp wit, sometimes quirky sense of humor, and remarkable gift for storytelling. Whether sharing a silly joke, a favorite memory, or recounting an adventure, he had a unique ability to captivate and entertain those around him.

Theodore is lovingly remembered by his son, Jason (Joanna) Cree; daughter, Elisa (Brian) DeGroot; brother, William (Sharroll) Cree; sister, Jane (Don) Nellis; sister-in-law, Peggy (Mike) Dougan; and grandchildren, Evelyn and Alexander Cree.

Theodore's faith, devotion to his family, love of music, and unwavering curiosity left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

A celebration of Theodore’s life will be held at GRACE EVANGELICAL CHURCH, 6925 E. Buckeye Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, with Pastor Steve German presiding. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
