Obituary

BARNEVELD - JoAnn Frances Carden, age 84, of Barneveld, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2026, in Sauk City. She was born on March 28, 1942, in Madison, the daughter of  Glenn and Agnes Erbe.


JoAnn graduated from Mount Horeb High School in 1960.  She was united in marriage to William Carden on May 26, 1962, in Mount Horeb. JoAnn worked for the State of Wisconsin, Department of Revenue until her retirement.


JoAnn was an EMT with the Barneveld Rescue Squad and was an active member of Barneveld Lutheran Church. She sang in the church choir for many years and enjoyed making quilts and preparing lefse with her church friends for the annual lutefisk supper.


Over the years, JoAnn and Bill enjoyed camping and visiting state and national parks. She loved being outdoors and took great pride in caring for her yard, especially her many varieties of hostas and beautiful flower gardens. JoAnn also enjoyed watching birds, particularly sandhill cranes, cardinals, and tundra swans.


Above all, JoAnn cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and the many special memories they made together.


JoAnn is survived by her husband, William; sons, Brian, Brad (Kari) and Jason (Kelly); grandchildren, Dylan, Ashland and Billy; and in-laws, Bob and Cindy Schaller and Joann Carden. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Fred and James Erbe; and in-laws, Dennis Carden, Marcia Carden, Carol and Jack Bowman, Nola Erbe and Donna Erbe.


A funeral service will be held at BARNEVELD LUTHERAN CHURCH, 505 Swiss Lane, Barneveld, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with Pastor Rhia Strohm presiding. A luncheon will follow. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
