Obituary
SHEBOYGAN - Susan Lynn “Sue” Dahmer passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026. She was born in Sheboygan, Wis., the middle daughter of Frederic and Virginia (Knauer) Holzwart, on November 28, 1947. She attended St. Dominic’s Catholic School, graduated from North High School, and later attended the University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan.
On July 1, 1967, Sue married Andrew Dahmer Jr. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Sheboygan. As a stay-at-home mother during the most essential time in her children’s early lives, Sue understood that the smallest acts of kindness often made the greatest difference. From preparing family meals and celebrating birthdays to comforting scraped knees, cheering from the sidelines at countless sporting events, and offering wise advice, she made every member of her family feel valued and loved, and she was like a second mother to kids in the neighborhood and to friends of Lisa, Dave, and Steve. Her patience, strength, and quiet sacrifices shaped the lives of her children and left a legacy that will continue for generations.
Later, as a tax preparer at H&R Block for a quarter century, Sue helped countless individuals, families, and small businesses navigate tax season with patience and expertise. Known for her attention to detail and commitment to doing what was right, Sue earned the confidence and gratitude of clients who often became lifelong friends.
Sue also found joy in gardening, knitting, crocheting, cooking, cribbage, reading, volunteering, and spending quality time with her children and grandchildren. She especially treasured holidays and family gatherings, creating traditions and memories that will forever be held close by those who knew her.
Sue had an incredible and quirky sense of humor enjoyed by and passed on to her children and grandchildren. She had a long list of “Oma-isms” that were phrases and sayings about life, ranging from inspirational to reflective to silly, that were uniquely her own and will be loved, repeated and passed down for generations to come.
Faith was central to Sue’s life and shaped her compassionate spirit. As a longtime member of Holy Name Catholic Church, she found strength, comfort, and purpose in her relationship with God and her Catholic faith. She believed in the power of prayer, the importance of family, and the value of treating every person with kindness and dignity.
Sue is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Andy; her daughter, Dr. Lisa A. (Jack) Young of Madison, Wis.; her sons, Andrew David (Julie) Dahmer of Madison, Wis., and Dr. Stephen M. (Windy) Dahmer of Tucson, Ariz.; and her nine cherished grandchildren: Sam, Elizabeth, Andrea and Theodore Young, Briana and Luna Dahmer, and Katrel, River and Hunter Dahmer. She is also survived by her sisters, Patricia (the late Richard Krajnak) Sauer of Sheboygan, Wis., and Peggy (Michael) Redfearn of Racine, Wis; as well as 10 beloved nieces and nephews.
