Obituary

DEERFIELD - Janelle Kay Tarkenton, 65, of Deerfield, Wis., passed away unexpectedly on August 5, 2026.

Born on November 2, 1960, to Josephine and Robert Tarkenton, Janelle spent most of her life in Deerfield before spending her final months with her beloved sister, Laura, in Tennessee.

Janelle will be remembered for her sharp sense of humor, joyful chaos, and the unconditional love she gave to everyone she met. She had a way of bringing laughter and spontaneity wherever she went, ensuring there was never a dull moment.

More than anything, Janelle cherished her family and the relationships she built throughout her life. Though she never married or had children, she loved her nieces and nephews, Robbie, Josh, Harley, Jesse, Casey and Charlie, and their respective children as if they were her own. She also shared a lifelong friendship with her devoted companion, Craig. Janelle held a special place in her heart for the many dogs she loved over the years.

Janelle is survived by her siblings, Bob, Stan, Guy, and Laura; and her lifelong friend, Craig Schnabel; her cherished nieces and nephews; extended family; and many dear friends, whose lives were brighter because of her love, laughter, and unforgettable spirit. Janelle was preceded in death by her parents; and her beloved brother, Howard.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

A burial and celebration of Janelle's life will be held at MT. HOPE CEMETERY, 204 Church St., Brooklyn, at 10 a.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
