Obituary
SUN PRAIRIE - Gerald John “Gerry” Kalscheuer, age 74, of Sun Prairie, put down his tools on Monday, August 3, 2026. He was born on January 20, 1952, in Madison, Wisconsin, the son of Gilbert and Evangeline (Haag) Kalscheuer. Gerry graduated from Sun Prairie High School in 1970 and Southwest Wisconsin Technical College in 1972 with a two-year diploma in Agricultural Mechanics. He ran his family’s dairy farm until 1985. He then worked as a mechanic at Hanley Implement and finished his career at Polk Diesel and Machine as the long-time service manager. Retirement could not slow him down. He worked for the Madison School District, driving a school bus. He always had a project going, and he was most proud of being able to finish a large project with all of his children.
On February 16, 2003, Gerry married Kaia Knutsen. For years, Gerry and Kaia loved spending time with their family and friends, especially attending their grandchildren’s events. They enjoyed traveling, dinner dates, and movie nights. They made many trips together to the family farm in Door County and their annual winter getaways to their house in Florida. After Kaia’s passing, Gerry spent his free time hunting, gardening, working on various projects for his loved ones, and continuing to attend as many of his grandchildren’s events as possible.
Gerry is survived by his children, Brian (Tori) Kalscheuer, Mark (Jennifer) Kalscheuer, Dan (Jenny) Kalscheuer, Julie (Troy) Sutherland, Jason Madaus and Karissa Madaus; grandchildren, Sean, Rae, Travis, Eva, Mikhail, Kaitlin, Savannah, Seth and Sophia; siblings, Steve (Sharon) Kalscheuer, Jim (Rose) Kalscheuer, Ron (Jeanne) Kalscheuer, Mike Kalscheuer, Sharon (Kevin) Suchomel and Mary Jo (Bill) Blumer; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kaia Kalscheuer; and parents, Gilbert and Evangeline.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
The family would like to thank Agrace Hospice Care and UW Hospital’s Palliative Care, Critical Care, and Neurology teams and all the staff of units D4/4 and D6/4 for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Agrace Hospice Care in his memory.
