Obituary
MADISON - LaVon Marie Miller, age 83, of Madison passed away peacefully of natural causes at Agrace Hospice after an extended hospital stay. Her family was with her continuously during her time at Agrace. She was born May 23, 1943, in the family farmhouse in Lancaster, the daughter of Raymond and Bernice (Hall) Eck.
LaVon graduated from Lancaster High School in 1961 and earned her associate degree in nursing from Madison Area Technical College in 1963. She was united in marriage to Albert Miller (1941-2024) on January 11, 1964, and they were inseparable for over 60 years.
She worked as a nurse her entire career, starting as a volunteer “candy striper” in high school at the hospital in Lancaster and continuing her nursing career for 36 years at the University of Wisconsin Hospital ultimately working as a nurse in surgical ophthalmology, retiring in 1998.
LaVon traveled extensively with her family and truly enjoyed the outdoors, particularly biking, hiking and downhill skiing. She loved sewing, knitting, cross-stitching, gardening and was also a very accomplished league bowler having once bowled a 299. Family was everything to LaVon and she loved every minute together; especially with her three grandchildren.
LaVon is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Robert) Parry; son, Rich (Holly Cogswell) Miller; three grandchildren, Grace Parry, Sean Parry and Mason Miller; brother, Roger Eck; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Eck, Kay Eck, Phyllis Eck, Doris Eck, Mary Fleming, Sally Miller and Vicki Miller; brothers-in-law, Paul Pluemer, Chester Miller and Donald Fleming; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; her parents, Bernice and Raymond; sisters, Vivian Eck and Betty Pluemer; and brothers, Stanley, Virgil, Robert, Clayton and Jackie Eck.
A celebration of life will be held at OLBRICH BOTANICAL GARDENS in the Atrium, 3330 Atwood Ave., Madison, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026.
