Obituary
MADISON - Carolyn Ann “Carrie” (Heil) Nimmer passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, at the age of 51, surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cholangiocarcinoma.
Carrie was born on September 18, 1974, in Appleton, Wisconsin. In early childhood, her family relocated to Madison, where she spent most of her life. She graduated from La Follette High School in 1992 and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography with a minor in Geology in 1997.
Throughout her life, Carrie embraced a variety of careers and opportunities. She worked for Central Storage Warehouse, the Madison Parks Department, and the Madison Police Department. During the final five years of her career, prior to her diagnosis, she served as a Court Clerk for the Dane County Courthouse, where she was known for her dedication and commitment to public service.
Above all, Carrie treasured the time she spent with her children, family, and friends. She enjoyed playing in a sand volleyball league, attending plays and concerts, exploring local festivals, and relaxing at Madison's Memorial Union. Carrie had a passion for travel and adventure, always eager to try something new or join loved ones on an impromptu journey. She created many cherished memories through annual family trips to Florida, a special trip to France with her daughter, Carmen, and her mother, Valerie, a getaway to Puerto Rico with her lifelong high school friends, travels to California, and numerous adventures during and after her college years.
Carrie is survived by her children, Carmen Voeck and Wesley Voeck; sister, Bethany Heil; mother, Valerie (Dennis) Clemen; stepmother, Julie Heil; as well as many family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Frederick Heil; uncle, Eric Heil; aunts, Phyllis Heil, Mary (Heil) Allen and Paula (Nebel) Oakdale; grandfathers, Frederick Heil Sr., and Richard Nebel; grandmothers, Helen Rose Heil and Anita Nebel; cousin, Tim Heil; and others.
Carrie's strength, generosity, and love for those around her will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. Her memory will continue to inspire family and friends to embrace life, seek adventure, and cherish time spent together.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Kristina Kuehl who continues to love and support, with exceptional friendship, since high school and throughout Carrie's cancer treatments.
A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, WI, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026. Carrie will be laid to rest beside her family in St. Joseph Cemetery in the Town of Sevastopol with a private graveside committal.
