Obituary

DEFOREST - Roger L. Hanson, age 80, of DeForest, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Fountain Head Homes. He was born on June 28, 1946, in Madison, the son of Magnus and Mae (Zimmerman) Hanson.

Roger graduated from Monona Grove High School before earning his bachelor's degree with honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was united in marriage to Suzanne Barten on Nov. 3, 1973.  In 1968, Roger began his career as an electrical engineer with MG&E, where he dedicated many years of service.

A devoted Christian, Roger faithfully served Immanuel Lutheran Church for many years as both organist and choir director. While in good health, he generously shared his time and talents with his church community, leaving a lasting impact on many.

Roger had a lifelong love of music and was a gifted pipe organist. He enjoyed reading, playing croquet, attending organ concerts, and keeping up with the latest stereo and sound system technology. He was also an avid model railroader, made his own fireworks, was a photographer and developed his own photos and pursed all other hobbies with enthusiasm.

Roger is survived by his sons, Scott Hanson and Matthew Hanson; brother-in-law, Frank (Nancy) Barten; niece, Christy Barten and nephew, Jonathan Barten. He was preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne Hanson; and parents, Magnus and Mae.

A celebration of life is being planned for a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
