Obituary

BROOKLYN - Thomas Robert Scott, 71, of Brooklyn, Wis., died on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

Although his death was unexpected, the life he lived was not. On any given day Tom could be found in his wood shop making pieces for his loving wife, grandchildren, friends and family. Tom was the best wood craftsman. He could turn any old piece of wood into a stunning piece. He made bed frames, games, cutting boards and birdhouses to name a few. Tom also loved the outdoors, which included his prairie. He loved his flowers and blue bird houses and would show anyone that wanted to take a cruise on the golfcart in the prairie. Tom and his wife together liked to take walks on their property and could be found driving the golf cart any night of the week to admire the home and property they built.

Tom worked for Sheet Metal Local 18 for many years and then he moved into teaching at MATC until his retirement. He taught apprentices the sheet metal trade as they worked their way to become Journeymen. He took the most pride in his teaching when his top apprentices competed to demonstrate their skills in HVAC with a chance to go to Las Vegas.

Tom will be deeply missed by his wife of 28 years, Mary; his son, Allen (Loretta); his daughters, Angela and Andrea; his brother, Rick (Angie); his twin brother, Bill; his brother, Alan; and his grandchildren, Ani, Alexis (Troy), Brenna (Drew), Diesel, Aztden, Malachi and Brooklyn (Matthew H). He is further survived by his nephews, Trevor, Tyler, Matthew and Ben.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Esther; son, Aric; and sister-in-law, Vicki.

Following the wishes of Tom, there will not be any services or visitation.

Tom always said charity starts at home, so in lieu of flowers pay it forward in memory of Tom and help out your family or help those less fortunate.

Tom was my day school instructor for my apprenticeship in Local 18 Sheet Metal. He is the reason I wanted to become an instructor myself. He was extremely kind, smart, and helpful. He is a legend in Madison area for Local 18 Sheet Metal. Rest In Peace Tom.

I am proud to count Tom as one of my favorite people of all time. I taught with Tom at MATC for nearly 20 years. We started our journey as friends in 2000. I have one of his 6-sided wooden puzzles plus he also built my wife and I very big wooden desk top for a "rescue desk" that was in need of a new lid... Tom also helped my son finish some cutting boards. There were other projects and some actually involved sheet metal. I know the small amount of electrical I did for Tom and Mary pales in comparison to the things Tom did for me. The last time I had lunch with Tom I thanked him and another coworker for being my calming influence for everything work related. Not only was Tom a calming influence for me and many others at MATC he as the finest craftsman I have ever known. Just so the entire Scott family knows, many of Tom's conversations involved Mary, kids, grandkids and his brothers. Always positive, looking to help and have fun. Erik Bade

We had such a nice time riding around the prairie with Tom. He was so proud to tell us all about the wildflowers and butterflies he took care of there. Condolences.

So sad to lose Tom Scott. I will forever hold on to good memories growing up with him in Madison. From many a fledgling wood working project, stereo speakers, tree forts and the pinnacle achievement – the A Frame, where the gang did a lot of “growing up” back in the day. What a great guy he was. My sincerest sympathies go out to family and friends alike.
