Obituary
DEFOREST - Karen Kay Lundquist, age 74, of DeForest, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at SSM Health-St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on October 16, 1951, in Madison, the daughter of Ivan and Anna (Figol) Lundquist.
Karen graduated from La Follette High School in 1969. She dedicated more than 40 years of service to the United States Postal Service, where she worked as a mail sorter. A lifelong fan of “Doctor Who” and all things science fiction, Karen turned her passion into community by founding Madison's first “Doctor Who” fan club in 1983. She also had a special place in her heart for animals and cherished the companionship of her beloved pets throughout her life.
Karen is survived by her brothers, Jerome "Jerry" (Teresa) Lundquist and Dan Lundquist; aunts, Gloria and Nancy; cousins, Jeff, Chris, Anna, and Julie; nephews, Mark, Chris and David; nieces, Colleen, Rae, Tami, Sonya and Tiffany; special friends, LaVon and Adam; and many great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Marvin; uncles, George, James and Marvin; aunt, Lorraine; cousins, Kathy and Marcia; and special great-aunt, Regina.
A graveside service will be held at BLOOMING GROVE CEMETERY, Pflaum Road, Madison, at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
Memorials may be made to the Dane County Humane Society.
