Obituary
BARNEVELD - Jerome F. “Jerry” Schlimgen, age 81, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026. He was born on January 25, 1945, the youngest of twelve children and the son of John and Anna Schlimgen.
Jerry attended Britt Valley Country School and Mount Horeb High School. In 1962 he joined the Army. After leaving the service, Jerry had a variety of careers. He helped his brothers on their farms, drove for Mayflower, and drove semi for his brother Roman. In 1972 he became a franchise owner of International Harvester. In 1984, a tornado hit Barneveld and leveled the town. The only business standing was Jerry’s dealership. In 1985, Case and IH merged (Case IH) and Jerry decided to give up the ownership life and went to work for Kalscheur Implement in Cross Plains until his retirement in 2013.
Jerry was a member of Knights of Columbus for 75 years, Barneveld Legion Post #433 and Barneveld Advancement for over 50 years. He also served on the Barneveld Brigham Fire Department.
He was a man of great faith. Jerry was an avid golfer and got out to the course as much as he could. He made a lot of great friends and had cherished memories at the Dodge Point Country Club. Back in the day he was one hell of a slow pitch player (so he told us). He enjoyed working at Bill and Diane’s farm and was always around to help out with the July 4th chicken BBQ at Birch Lake. Playing cards with the guys was something he always looked forward to. Everyone knows how much pride he took in his yard. Jerry also had a fondness for fast muscle cars.
Jerry was united in marriage to Terri L. Hughes on June 5, 1971. Family was important to Jerry, and he loved all three of his children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Some of his happiest moments were when his children and grandchildren gathered at his house.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Amy Jo (Nick) Bowar; sons, Jerry “Bud” (Keri) Schlimgen and Ted (Alison) Schlimgen; grandchildren, Kaila (Brandon), Tyler (Rachel), Zachary, Brooklyn, Savannah and Ella; great-grandchildren, Hudson and Autumn; siblings, Leona (Linus) Rauls, Glenn Schlimgen and Harold Schlimgen; brothers-and-sisters-in-law, Grace Schlimgen, Judy Hughes (Steve Thiele), Joann (David) Manteufel, Janie Hughes, Joe (Cherie Hughes) and Diane (Bill) Schlimgen; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Terri L. Schlimgen; parents, John and Anna Schlimgen; parents-in-law, Aleta Hughes and Milton Hughes; sisters, Marie Lamberty, Helen Laufenberg, Lucille Kaltenberg, and Betty Kluesner; brothers, Paul Schlimgen, Roman Schlimgen, Leroy Schlimgen, and Leo Schlimgen; and brothers-and-sisters-in-law, Harley Lamberty, Ed Laufenberg, Lorraine Schlimgen, Seraphine Schlimgen, James Kaltenberg, Mary Ann Schlimgen, Agnes Schlimgen, and Dave Weier.
