Obituary

OREGON - Thomas Arthur Martinson, age 81, of Oregon, passed away on June 28, 2026, at Four Winds Manor.

Tom was born on March 11, 1945, at Madison General Hospital in Madison, the son of William and Mary (Gehin) Martinson. He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oregon and later confirmed at People’s United Methodist Church in Oregon.

Growing up, Tom had a paper route from 1960 to 1961 and worked after school as a janitor. He attended Oregon schools and graduated from Oregon High School in 1963. In 1964, he enlisted in the Air National Guard, where he served in weaponry until receiving his honorable discharge in 1971.

Following his military service, Tom joined the family business, Martinson Implement in Brooklyn. He later purchased his brother Bill’s ownership interest and continued operating the business. After Martinson Implement closed, Tom opened his own repair business in the railroad warehouse in Brooklyn, where he worked for several years. He later purchased the former John Deere dealer property at the corner of Highways 92 and 14 east of Brooklyn, and continued growing his business there. In 1994, Tom sold the repair business in Brooklyn to Carter and Greenwald.

Tom had a special fondness for dogs, which brought him companionship and joy throughout his life.

Thomas is survived by his brothers, Tim (LuAnn Stelter) Martinson, Bob (Sharon) Martinson, Dick Martinson, David (Wendy) Martinson and Gary (Rebecca) Martinson; sister, Mary Lou Hodel; and stepsisters, Janet Cramer and Beverly Edwards. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary; brothers, Donald (Carol) Martinson, William (Corrine and Shirlee) Martinson and Kenneth (Vicki) Martinson; and sister, Patty Owen.
