Sarah Jane "Sally" Kramer

STOUGHTON - Sally Kramer enjoyed the quiet of the Northwoods, where she and her husband, Bob made their retirement home for more than 25 years. But she appreciated more the moments she shared with her children and grandchildren, who made the house a home. Sally passed away on June 24, 2026, at the age of 88, with family by her side.

She was born Sarah J. Kiger on July 7, 1937, in Kenosha, Wis., to Clifton and Una Kiger, but she always went by Sally. She would spend the next 55 years in Kenosha, graduating from Mary D. Bradford High School. While walking with a friend, she spotted Robert Kramer fishing off Kenosha’s North Pier. They would marry on October 12, 1957.

Early in her career, Sally worked as secretary for Carthage College football coach, Art Keller, and later as secretary with the Kenosha School District. During that time, she and Bob had three children, Craig, Karen and Barry. A lot of time was spent on their children’s activities, with summers often devoted to supporting their children’s marching band programs. The family also loved to spend time in outdoors - camping, fishing, and taking drives through the Wisconsin

Northwoods.

After retiring, Sally and Bob moved to the Northwoods, where they made their home on Two Sisters Lake in Lake Tomahawk. They loved listening to the loons on the lake, and watching the deer and bears that roamed near their home. However, retirement didn’t mean just sitting. She continued a life-long passion for learning, taking classes in knitting, quilting, cooking and baking. The family enjoyed the many sewn and knitted gifts she lovingly made, and the handmade Christmas ornaments she crafted each year. Sally and Bob also volunteered for several years with Meals on Wheels, helping to deliver meals to those in need.

Sally was at home in the kitchen and welcomed everyone to her table. Sally enjoyed hosting family and friends, especially for holiday gatherings and summer visits. When she wasn’t cooking or baking, she was collecting recipes. Some were made; some weren’t. All were kept in binders or books that remained neatly on her shelf. Always happy to please, she kept a list of foods her grandchildren and son-in-law didn’t like. While she didn’t do much cooking at her last home, Skaalen Heights in Stoughton, Wis., she became part of the committee that created menus for resident meals. Of course, she would let them know how to prepare the vegetables correctly.

In her later years, Sally found a wonderful community at Skaalen. She enjoyed serving on committees, playing cards, participating in activities, and making lasting friendships with fellow residents.

Sally will be remembered for her fierce independence, feisty spirit, quick wit, and wonderful sense of humor. Above all, Sally loved her family. She is survived by her children, Craig (Ouafa), Karen Kramer-Aehl (James) and Barry (Sue); grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jerry), Eric (Jessica), Jacob (Assem), Peter (Celia), Benjamin, Brendon and Katrina (Tony); great-grandchildren, Francesca and Elijah; and many extended family members and dear friends. Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Kramer; her parents, Clifton and Una Kiger; and her sister, Dorothy Jacobson.
