Obituary
MONONA - Dorothy Jean Simons, age 90, of Monona, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026. She was born on October 27, 1935, in Madison, the daughter of Fred and Eva (Hamilton) Bradley.
Dorothy graduated from Madison East High School in 1953. She was united in marriage to Vernon Simons in Madison in 1958 and together they shared 56 wonderful years. Dorothy worked as a typist for The Thesis Center, retiring in March 1984. She was a faithful member of Monona United Methodist Church.
Dorothy cherished time spent with her grandchildren and looked forward to family trips to Door County. She loved the companionship of her beloved dogs, Daisy and Judah. She also enjoyed working on puzzles and playing games, particularly crossword puzzles, Skip-Bo, Farkle, and Yahtzee. Her warm spirit, love of family, and enjoyment of life's simple pleasures will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Susan Ruhde and Bob (Rachel) Simons; grandchildren, Margreta Ruhde and Noah Ruhde; grand-dogs, Fenris and Freya; and dear friend, Evelyn Friis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; parents, Fred and Eva; and brother, Robert Bradley.
A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026, with the Rev. Scott Marrese-Wheeler presiding. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.
