Obituary
WAUNAKEE - James A. “Jim” Denkert, age 54, of Waunakee, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at UW Hospital and Clinics. He was born on January 1, 1972, in Madison, Wis., the son of Avery and Arlene (Lutz) Denkert.
Jim graduated from La Follette High School in 1990 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in political science from UW-Whitewater. He enjoyed a career as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Waunakee for the last 13 years. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where he served as an elder and volunteered for many youth events. In his free time, he enjoyed cooking, coaching volleyball, taking family trips and following family traditions. He had a great sense of humor, and he was loving, caring, supportive and selfless, valuing his family above all.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Erin and Amy Denkert; his brothers, Robert (Sally) Denkert and John Denkert; niece, Sarah (Andy Heideman) Denkert; nephews, Joshua Denkert, Mark (Kelly) Denkert and Matthew (Morgan) Denkert; great-nephew, Finnegan Denkert; and the mother of his daughters, Anne Denkert. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, William Denkert.
A funeral service will be held at BETHLEHEM LUTHERAN CHURCH, 300 Broadway Drive, Sun Prairie, at 11 a.m. on Saturday June 27, 2026, with the Rev. Rod Serbus and the Rev. Ben Leeper presiding. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens, Cottage Grove. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
