Obituary

DUNKIRK - Rodney Merwyn Brickson, age 90, of Dunkirk, passed away at home on the farm on Monday, June 15, 2026. He was born on August 31, 1935, in Madison, the son of Walter and Naomi (Stenseth) Brickson.

Rodney graduated from Stoughton High School in 1953. He was united in marriage to Joanne (Koch) at Central Lutheran Church in Stoughton, WI on November 13, 1959.

A lifelong farmer, Rodney took great pride in the land and in watching each season’s crops grow. Even in his later years, he continued to enjoy "window farming," keeping a close eye on the fields from home. Beyond the farm, Rodney loved to travel and was proud to have visited all 50 states, as well as several countries, alongside many good friends.

Rodney cherished time spent with family, especially around the card table, where his dry sense of humor was always appreciated. He found joy in life's simple pleasures and in the relationships he cultivated over the years.

It brought Rodney great comfort and happiness to spend his final days at home on the farm he loved so dearly. He and Karl shared a special bond, farming side by side for many years, creating memories that will be treasured by those who knew them.

Rodney is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joanne “Cookie”; children, Kathy (Steve) Bliss, Bryan Brickson and Karl (Heidi) Brickson; grandchildren, Jenny (Nick) Johnson, Kelly Baylor, Kole Brickson and Staci (Adam) Amundson; great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Burrington; and special friend, Terry Fountain. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Naomi; and grandson, Coy Kalagian-Brickson.

A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON STOUGHTON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1358 Highway 51 N. at Jackson St., Stoughton, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2026. A luncheon will follow at the AMERICAN LEGION POST NO. 59, 803 N. Page St., Stoughton, beginning at 12 noon. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Family requests everyone wear red and dress casually in honor of Rodney.

A special thank you to Rod’s family and friends who were a wonderful support to him over the years.

In lieu of flowers, Rod’s family requests donations be made to Covenant Lutheran Church or The Stoughton Food Pantry. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
