Obituary

MONONA - Maureen Molony passed away on June 25, 2026, from complications of a stroke. She was born on May 30, 1949, in Portage, Wis., to Robert “Bob” and Ann Molony.


Maureen graduated from Lodi High School, earned a bachelor’s in nursing at UW-Whitewater, a master’s in nursing at UW-Madison and a Juris Doctorate from UW Law School. She had a successful law practice for over four decades. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monona, Wis.


Maureen is survived by her son, Robert, and daughter-in-law, Rachel; grandchildren, Mark, Shannon and Mary Margaret; brother, John James “J”; and sister-in-law, Tanya. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Mark Gichert.


A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, with Father Bill Nolan presiding. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026, and also from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
 

Maureen’s generosity, concern for others, and dynamic personality will be greatly missed.

My sister, Maureen, will be remembered as a devoted mother whose son, Robert, meant the world to her. She was immensely proud of his accomplishments, the life he built, and the family he cherished. Her greatest joy was spending time with her beloved grandchildren. Maureen was a hard-working, intelligent woman who built an outstanding career through dedication and perseverance. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Maureen was such a kind and genuine person. She was always there to help and you would help me move during a time of great need. I loved her fashions and how she felt about her Great Danes who always seem to be escaping from her Monona home! Of course, she was so proud of and had so much love for Robert, Rachel and their growing family. I loved hearing about them as well as her many loving memories of her beloved Mark. I truly wish I could have known him and will miss Maureen dearly. Her smile, warmth and truly special heart stays with me. Since she moved to Texas, I missed and worried about her so much but always felt better knowing she was in the good and capable hands of Robert, Rachel and their children. Much love and thanks to them for taking care of Maureen, particularly in these last few years.
