Obituary

MADISON - David Frank Maslako, 77, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. He was the son of the late Frank and Miriam Maslako.


Dave was known for his fun-loving spirit and quick sense of humor. While living in Florida, “Fast Dave” enjoyed racing his Austin-Healey and MG cars in Autocross. He took great pride in owning and operating his painting business, Time Painting. Dave was a proud Purgolder and graduate of East High School in Madison, Wis.


Dave is survived by his sister, Nancy Landl (Gary) of Gold Canyon, Ariz.; daughters, Carrianne (Rob) Basler of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Amy (Jon) Russell of Cottage Grove, Wis.; and his grandchildren, David Basler, Jenna Russell and Grant Basler.


In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara (Jeff) Feldman of Issaquah, Wash.

I have so many memories of my big brother Dave! We were close in age, so we shared childhood friends and later as teens we hung out with the same crowd. He was always a big part of my life. Dave was forever involved in building things—a 2-story backyard fort, a soapbox cart, a wooden scooter, and later it was motorcycles and cars, like the ones he raced in Florida. He always had a project or an idea for one. If he wasn’t constantly constructing things, then he was dreaming up pranks or ways to get in trouble😆! Dave had an entrepreneurial spirit that led him from his paper route, to starting a snowplowing business and eventually to owning a painting business in Ft Myers FL. I recall many fun trips over the years to visit him there and enjoy his hospitality. Although I’ve lived far away from him for many years, whenever I picture him he’s always wearing that same mischievous grin (like in the photo here). I will miss that smile, Brother Dave, until we meet again.💕

I took my first adult trip to see my cousin Dave when I was 20 traveling from Oconomowoc to Ft. Myers, FL. He was like having a big brother all wrapped up in a fun cousin. He helped me through a difficult time. I will always remember his great smile and infectious laugh. I know he is with Barbara now. RIP cousin.

I was a high school colleague of Amy’s (Dave’s daughter). As is often true, when you’re a kid, you don’t always know your friends’ folks that well. But one thing is sure. Good comes from good. And Amy was always kind, friendly, and fun. These good qualities had to come from someone! And so, I offer my condolences. We are never quite grown up enough to say goodbye to our mom and dad.
