August 23, 1944 - July 07, 2026
Obituary
STOUGHTON - Ronald LaVerne Buss, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at his home in Stoughton, Wis., surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.
Ron was born on August 23, 1944, in Watertown, Wis., the son of LaVerne Buss and Pearl (Schilling) Buss Schenck. After graduating from Waterloo High School in 1962, he joined the United States Air Force, where he served as a Communications Specialist until 1966. Ron was deeply proud of his military service, and in 2024 he was honored to participate in the Badger Honor Flight, a meaningful experience he cherished.
Ron met the love of his life, Diane (Broome) Buss, and they were married on June 12, 1971, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marshall, Wis. In 1983, he earned a degree from Wisconsin School of Electronics, a milestone that helped advance his career. He went on to work for AT&T as a communications technician for 35 years before retiring in 2006.
A devoted member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Ron was also active in the Stoughton Country Club, the American Legion, and the Stoughton Lions Club. Through these organizations, he generously gave his time, talents, and treasures in service to others and his community.
Ron enjoyed golfing, woodworking, and reading, but what he loved most was connecting with people. Blessed with an outgoing personality, he could strike up a conversation with anyone and quickly make a new friend. He was also an accomplished singer who happily shared his gift at weddings, in church, in the shower, and anywhere he could find someone willing to sing along.
Above all else, Ron loved his family. He treasured the many vacations he shared with his children and grandchildren in northern Wisconsin and enjoyed countless adventures traveling and cruising with Diane. In recent years, his greatest joy was spending time with his three little great-granddaughters. They loved sitting on Papa’s lap, watching “ScoobyDoo,” and sharing treats together - moments that brought him immeasurable happiness and created memories his family will forever cherish.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Diane; children, Jennifer (Michael) Brevard and Jill (Ryan) Schroeder; grandchildren, Heather (Nathan Bachmann) Brevard, Jacob (Brianna) Brevard, Tyler (Sydney) Schroeder, Morgan Brevard and Nathan Schroeder; great-grandchildren, Lillian Bachmann, Emersyn Brevard and Aurelia Bachmann; brother, Robert (Denise) Buss; sisters, Darlene (Roger) Raether, Joan Klug, Peggy Behling and Laurie (Steve) Weisensel; sisters-in-law, Cathy (Bev Smith) Broome and Jeanne (Rick) Pepping; and brothers-in-law, Jeff Herman and Wilbur Stark. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Eugene Schenck; mother-in-law, Ruth Broome; father-in-law, Bernard Broome; brother, Terry Buss; sister, Susan Stark; brother-in-law, Lloyd Behling; and sister-in-law, Debra Herman.
