Obituary

In Loving Memory of Our Mother.

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Linda May (Chittenden) Harris, on June 6, 2026, whose life touched many people in ways both large and small.

Though time and circumstance created distance between us over the years, the bond between mother and child is never completely erased. She remains a part of the story of our lives, and we remember her with a mixture of reflection, gratitude and sorrow.

She lived through seasons of joy and hardship, triumph and challenge, and leaves behind a legacy carried forward by those who knew and loved her. Her life was uniquely her own, marked by experiences, relationships and memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of family and friends.

As we mourn her passing, we also honor her humanity, her strengths, her imperfections and the role she played in shaping the lives of those around her.

She will be remembered, missed and laid to rest with dignity and peace.

May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Cynthia LaMay (Kurt) Collins, Christopher David Harris, David Allen (Gina) Harris II; and nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

This makes me incredibly sad to see this news about Linda. Growing up, she was one of my best friends and was in my wedding in 1972. We had a lot of fun, many slumber parties at her house and her mom made delicious chocolate chip bars. We swam, we rode our bikes and as we got older, we went shopping together and got into the regular mischief as teenagers do. I've always wondered where she went, but I had heard that she had a difficult life. I will always love her and remember her as a very dear friend. Candy Cattell

My sincere condolences to Linda’s family. The announcement of her death is heartbreaking. Linda is my sister Virginia’s daughter. I did not live in Madison and I lost contact with Linda after Virginia’s death. Linda had had a memory of her mom’s “hope chest” that held many keepsakes of her mom’s and desperately wanted to find it. After Virginia’s death we did find it tucked under the eaves in Virginia’s house attic. Linda got the “hope chest” with all the keepsakes in it including Virginia’s wedding dress from 1948 in perfect condition. I have many good memories of Linda growing up and was the babysitter on call for the Chittenden children, Jim, Linda and Randy. Rest in peace Linda. Love, Aunt Bernice Day
