Obituary

COTTAGE GROVE - Cassie “Cass” McCance Davis, age 73, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, on her beloved Davis Farm.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan. She is survived by her sister, Sandy (Greg) Robinson of Sheboygan; and brother, Joe (Jeanne) McCance of Waunakee. She was a special aunt to nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She loved to entertain them but was also a serious prankster.

Cass was a naturalist at heart. She delighted in everything about country life. Back roads, animals, birds and seasonal changes gave her immense pleasure. She went green long before it was fashionable and always left the smallest footprint possible.

She retired young as a data center manager and became a very successful home day trader. She and Dan loved to travel both near and far - but liked nothing better than a road trip.

Cass cherished all things old, and surrounded herself with family keepsakes, collectibles and antiques. She appreciated many art forms - a good book, a play, a concert, a great photo, a painting, a big screen movie, or a song from her own extensive music collection.

Her joy for life, kind heart, and quick wit will be missed.

A time of gathering will take place at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, on Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. followed by words of remembrance at 12:30 p.m. A luncheon will follow at DOUBLEDAYS, 4586 Baxter Road, Cottage Grove, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Sandy, Joe and family, My sincerest condolences to all. I have many memories of Cass, having been classmates at Frank Allis and LaFollette. We played at each other’s homes, and I remember sitting in your basement with Cass and Kathleen Myhre listening to Cream! We stayed in touch after high school, and I remember running into her on a couple of occasions, and one was at a play or concert. I visited her at the farm, a beautiful home and so much of her in it. She was a gifted artist, and I still see her with a long braid down her back. May you all share wonderful stories of her throughout the coming days.

Cassie, You were so welcoming to my large family when we moved in right next-door to you the summer of 1969. It turned out You And and I were the same age and you told me when I got to Lafollette Hugh School would be known by a student number. I’ve never forgotten that, I felt lost, and that I didn’t have a name. I had to memorize my number. It was like going from a tiny private Catholic school into this big public university, so I loved hanging on your coattails there for a while. You showed me the ropes. I especially remember your dad because he shopped at C & P where I worked starting the day after high school (until I got married and left in December 1974). He was a regular and I had more fun chatting with him as he always brought such a smile in my face. A spark in my day shift. Your mom and your brother and sister were kind to my family as well, and none of us will ever forget you. It sounds like you had a good and interesting life after high school. I always looked for you at class reunions and even wondered if you would be there this year as we celebrate our 55th. But you’re resting❤️‍🩹 in God’s arms-forever and peaceful. May the perpetual light shine up on you forever 🙏🏻✝️

Cassie, we were childhood neighbors and friends. I remember many hours sitting in that Willow tree chatting and laughing. I often wondered where you were and what you were up to. God has you now. May you rest in peace Cass.

Dan is my cousin. I had the privilege of knowing both Cass and Dan. They came to Las Vegas a lot and we always met them for dinner. We visited the Davis Farm also. Glad they are together again. We miss them. Kathy and Don Van Etten
